LAKESIDE, Calif. — Two people who died when their plane crashed over the weekend in Lakeside were publicly  identified Monday.

The instructor pilot, Peter Gillcrist, and his passenger, Garrett Engler, crashed about 4:15 p.m. Saturday in an area north of the El Capitan Reservoir, Sky Combat Ace President Megan Fazio said.

When emergency responders arrived, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

“To our knowledge, there were no distress calls made prior to the accident,” Fazio said in a statement.

The crash sparked a brush fire that was extinguished Saturday night.

Because of the blaze, medical examiner’s officials weren’t able to survey the crash site until Sunday.

Sky Combat Ace operates out of the Las Vegas area and Gillespie Field and offers thrill seekers a chance to ride as a passenger or perform their own aerobic stunts as the pilot.

Neighbors of Gillcrist told FOX 5 that he was well-liked in their community and leave behind four children and his wife.
