HONOLULU (AP) — The two people who died in a plane crash on Molokai have been identified.

Family members of William F. Vogt, 78, and Lynn Vogt, 74, said the married couple died in the crash on Sunday, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported .

William F. Vogt was a retired Honolulu dentist. He and Lynn Vogt were living on Molokai, a Hawaiian island between Oahu and Maui.

Toni Mata, who worked for William F. Vogt, said he was an avid pilot who loved to fly his Cessna 206. Vogt had a private pilot’s license.

“I’ve been telling people basically that he was a very nice man and his wife was a very kind woman,” Mata said. “He cared a lot about his patients and his patients loved and respected him as a dentist.”

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said the propeller plane crashed “under unknown circumstances” while en route to the Molokai Airport.

Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said inspectors will travel to Molokai on Tuesday to investigate the wreckage.

“We were able to locate the wreckage in a difficult-to-reach brush area, 3 to 4 miles west of the airport just east of the FAA navigational aid,” Maui Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto said.

While it was not raining at the time, fire crews reported seeing low cloud ceilings and fog down to the road when they responded to the crash.
