2 Injured After Plane Crashes in Illinois River

The pilot and a passenger were taken to an area hospital with injuries

Two people were injured when a small plane crashed into a river in Illinois Saturday, authorities said.

Around 12:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of a small aircraft that crashed into the Rock River near Grand Detour, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

Officials said the plane came in contact with power lines that cross the river, but it was unclear if that was the cause or if mechanical issues led to the crash.

The pilot and a passenger were taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening, according to ISP.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash, officials said, and the incident remains under investigation.
