BAKER CITY, Ore. – A small airplane crashed near the Baker City Municipal Airport Saturday.

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office responded to the airplane crash near Lindley Road and Interstate 84.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a single-engine passenger airplane that had crashed nose first into the ground.

The two occupants did not survive the crash.

The sheriff’s office said the plane was traveling from Caldwell, Idaho. They believe it was on its way to the Baker City Municipal Airport.

The investigation is ongoing. Deputies are working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause of the crash.

The victims will not be identified until next of kin have been notified.
