DOVESVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man suffered minor injuries after a plane he was piloting crashed into a wooded area in South Carolina.

The State of Columbia reports the privately-owned plane crashed in Dovesville on Sunday around 2 p.m.

Darlington County Sheriff’s Office public information liaison Lt. Robert Kilgo says the pilot was the only person on board the plane and that a nearby homeowner helped the pilot escape.

Authorities say the pilot walked away from the crash and suffered minor injuries. It’s unclear where the pilot was flying from or his intended destination, but Kilgo says the Darlington County Jetport is nearby.

Kilgo says the Federal Aviation Administration will determine the cause of the crash.
